Kevin G’s Weekly Metal Playlist

It’s been a crazy busy week so I wasn’t able to get to a my daily reviews, however I was able to listen to a bunch of new releases. Some solid stuff this week, which seems to be the trend for the year so far. Solid. Nothing absolutely amazing yet, but solid. And fun. Tons of fun stuff coming out this year. Look at it. Here it is, now…

NEW STUFF: (Click the fucking titles)

Midnight – Shox of Violence
If you like Midnights brand of sleazed up blackened speed metal you’ll probably like this compilation. It’s them do that full on. Some new songs a shit ton of covers and a couple of unlistenable live tracks. Pretty straight forward and good fun.

(Waning) – Still Hours
Came across this band view a review site and the description caught my eye. Think it was Continue reading “Kevin G’s Weekly Metal Playlist”

Kevin G’s Weekly Metal Playlist

Hey, some stuff happened and things transpired and metal kept us all sane. Or at least it should be. Here’s some new stuff that came out this week that should feel good in your empty ears.

Overkill – The Grinding Wheel
Since Ironbound in 2010, Overkill has been on fucking fire with each release after seeing Overkill doing what they do best, which is snarky, east coast flavored, punk infused thrash, and The Grinding Wheel is just that, but turned up even more, if that’s a possible thing to do for Overkill. They’ve brought back more of the punk attitude and style that was played down a bin on the past too and cranked the thrash. Surprisingly they got a little Candlemass-ish doom-y on the finale, something I’ve never heard from Overkill before, and of course, they crush it.

Most bands who’ve been in the game this long have fizzled out creativity or subside solely on nostalgia. It’s good to see an long running band still burning that fire and schooling everybody in the process. If you’ve ever seen them live, you’ll know what I’m talking Continue reading “Kevin G’s Weekly Metal Playlist”

Ask the Band: Professor Pizza of Axeslasher

Kvlt of Brewtality does interviews! In the first of a new series, we ask bands, brewery types and horror people questions about their relevant topics and touch on others like bands on horror, brewers on metal and horror on craft beer. Axeslasher has three releases, doesn’t tour and only rises from the grave after sacrifices are made (who knew), so with an upcoming show on Monday with East Coast thrash legends Overkill, it seemed like a good time to talk with their vocalist and head honcho, Professor Pizza.

Axeslasher has been involved in some stuff over the last few years: a single, some shows and BAM! feature as the opening credits song in “Deathgasm.” You guys play very few shows and release little music, you are like an anomaly … how instrumental is the Axeslasher image (band theme and the often copied Pizzagram) in all that?

Axeslasher is very much like SOD. Our live lineup is comprised of a bunch of members from different touring bands living in different states. It takes a special combination of luck and blood sacrifice to raise the beast.

In Defense of The Walking Dead & Negan

For those of you NOT caught up on the most current season of The Walking Dead, be warned… spoilers ahead!

We’ve all seen the posts stating that the past season of The Walking Dead was losing viewers at a rapid pace. In fact, it was reported that the season 7 mid-season finale had the lowest viewership numbers since season 3. That being said, it’s still the highest rated show on basic cable. It’s a troubling phenomenon, especially since The Walking Dead is still one of the best horror properties currently running on TV.

Why the loss of viewership? Frankly, I think the show is becoming too bleak for some. Many Continue reading “In Defense of The Walking Dead & Negan”

Album Review: Kreator – Gods of Violence

When the sky is blackened and the fires rage. When the hordes have taken to the street to tear each other limb from limb. When the world descends in to utter and total chaos, providing the soundtrack to the end times, perched atop the torso pile as the landscape burns behind them will be Kreator. I just didn’t think it would happen so soon.

I think it’s highly appropriate that during such a tumultuous time Kreator swoops in with their apocalyptic, mass chaos and violence brand of aggressive thrash. The elder statesmen of Teutonic thrash continue their legacy with their fourteenth release Gods of Violence an album that is Kreator doing what they do best: being fucking Kreator.

Left Hand Brewing Company – Smokejumper Smoked Imperial Porter

Kvlt Rating: 3.5/5

Craft beer is always down for some more obscure causes, Left Hand Brewing Company chose Smokejumpers. The wildfire firefighters that parachute into the middle of natural hell are highlighted in this appropriately smoked beer. Left Hand partnered with the National Smokejumper Association for three events after the release where the proceeds went to a Continue reading “Left Hand Brewing Company – Smokejumper Smoked Imperial Porter”
