Here in Denver Fall gave us a bit of a preview this morning and it got me all excited about the changing of the seasons, not to mention it got me even more excited for all the upcoming metal releases coming this autumn. Nothing goes with metal as well as the crisp autumn air. It’s not here yet and until then we have some new metal this week that is worth putting in your ears, so go ahead and do that and live the awesome life.
NEW STUFF: (Click the titles, slackers)
Thy Worshiper – Klechdy
This Polish band is completely new to me and came highly recommended from a trust worthy source, and of course, they were right because this album fucking rules everything. It’s rare that you hear a band that is totally unique and original. While Thy Worshiper uses a lot of familiar elements of folk, death, and black metal, the way they incorporate it with a percussion heavy drive, varied vocal performances, melodic tranquil moments, progressive riffing, and crushing heaviness is a thing of true beauty. It’s almost effortless in it’s complexity. Amazingly well done and amazing album, through and through.
Inquisition – Bloodshed Across the Empyrean Altar Beyond the Celestial Zenith
Yup. New Inquisition is awesome, as to be expected. They continue their furious, riff heavy, cosmic themed black metal assault unabated. Not much to say really except that if you like Inquisition you’ll like this album because it’s awesome.
MODOK – Split with ALONE
They’re follow up release to their awesome demo from earlier this year, powerslop trio MODOK fucking kill it again. I mentioned before I’m not familiar with powerslop but sound, to my ears is a healthy mix of old death metal, doom, and crust, which makes for the sweet, killer sound of MODOK. Also the intro with the comic character M.O.D.O.K. is too fucking rad. I don’t have the ALONE side of this split but I can assure you the MODOK side is rad. Support some Colorado bands. Their side of the split is available for a name your own price deal on Bandcamp but why not throw them some bucks.
Bewitcher – Bewitcher
Classic style speed metal with a healthy dose of punk attitude and black n roll ferocity, piled on top of riff after killer riff. This isn’t new territory and there’s a lot of these throw back style bands doing some fun stuff lately and Bewitcher is another one of them. Take fellow classic jammers Night Demon and throw a black metal vocalist in and you have Bewitcher. Solid fun.
Eneferens – The Inward Cold
Beautiful, folky, atmospheric black metal. All the things I’m a mark for and Eneferens hits all those spots magnificently.
Imperium Dekadenz – Dis Manibvs
Imperium Dekandenz excel in crafting vast, gorgeous, aural landscapes of black metal. Beautiful melodic riffing with some traditional black metal sensibilities but mostly just awe inspiring beauty. Tranquil is a good way to describe the feeling all this sound makes me feel.
Stilla – Skuggflock
I’d heard a couple week’s ago from my buddy that the new Stilla is fucking killer, and I wasn’t surprised given the strength of their output but today I finally put some ears on it and yes indeed, it’s fucking amazing all over. I’m kind of at a loss as to how to describe this bands sound. It’s black metal, from Sweden and definitely invokes that Scandinavian flavor but they’ve added some more progress/post vibes to it. It’s more ritualistic. More gritty with those nasty, pained vocals and melodic guitars and heavy bass. It’s a beast for sure and another excellent album for both Still and Nordvis/Bindrune.
